We are all familiar with blackout blinds and how useful they are not only for a good night’s sleep, but also for children’s bedrooms where keeping light out in the afternoon gives mums, dads and nans a chance to rest! However, these handy blinds do have other uses that are often overlooked in the home.

Blackout blinds are ultra-effective at cutting out the light, and therefore ideal for any room where the sun comes pouring in to the point of discomfort. Conservatories are a good example as are rooms in the loft used for offices, or even loft apartments with deluxe style windows. Installing a blackout blind means that you can effectively cut out the glare, and also the overheating just when you need it most.

I know what you are thinking already – surely a basic blackout blind is rather unattractive and needs to be hidden behind a curtain. Not so. Today, there are a huge range of blackout blinds on the market to suit all tastes and types of decor. Blackout come in all the common blind types – pleated, vertical, roller, roman and venetian, and in a variety of colours, textures and patterns.

You can still of course get the basic white blackout blind to be used behind closed curtains, but why buy two window coverings when you only need one? Modern blackout blinds are easy to incorporate into any room in the home, and as easy to install as any other type of blind, but has the added advantage of offering effective climate control.
